All through the GOP presidential campaign, Mitt Romney’s opponents and conservative critics have likened the health care reform plan he put into place while governor of Massachusetts to the health care overhaul that Republicans have reviled as “Obamacare.”
But a new Kaiser Health Tracking Poll conducted Jan. 12-17 suggests that the attempt to tie Romney to Obama on the issue has not gained traction with either Republicans or the public at large.
Kaiser put the question this way: “Do you think Mitt Romney and Barack Obama have views on health care policy that are very similar, somewhat similar, somewhat different, or very different?”
Forty-nine percent of Republicans said that Romney’s views were very or somewhat different from those of Obama, while 30 percent found them very or somewhat similar with 22 percent expressing no opinion.
Among the general public, 44 percent said the health care outlooks of Romney and Obama were very or somewhat different while 29 percent found them very or somewhat similar, with 27 percent expressing no opinion.
